MobilePay

MobilePay is the most used mobile wallet in Denmark and is widely used in Finland, with 4.7 million users in Denmark and 2.9 million in Finland. Your customer pays with a card stored in the MobilePay app and approves the payment in the app. MobilePay processes in Danish kroner (DKK) and euros (EUR).

Rootline processes a MobilePay payment as a card payment. You capture, cancel and refund it the same way as a card payment. Unless your account captures automatically, send a capture request to collect the funds.

How your customer pays with MobilePay

  1. Your customer selects MobilePay in the Rootline checkout, or on your own page when you use the redirect integration.
  2. Rootline sends your customer to MobilePay. Your customer approves the payment in the MobilePay app with a card stored in the app.
  3. If the card issuer asks for 3D Secure, your customer completes it in the Rootline checkout.
  4. Rootline sends your customer back to your return_url.

The return to your return_url does not confirm the payment. Rootline receives the result from MobilePay separately, so use webhooks to get the final payment status.

Create a seamless flow with the Payments API

In The Payment API section we explain how to use the Payments API to create a payment flow.

Checkout integration

Let Rootline handle the payment method selection. Start the payment by sending a payment request with the details below. MobilePay payments must be in Danish kroner (DKK) or euros (EUR).

{ "account_id": "acc_12347Sifdo36cdycbsw4Pum", "amount": { "currency": "DKK", "quantity": "150.00" }, "reference": "test_reference", "statement_descriptor":"Bank statement text", "return_url":"https://www.my_return_url.com" }

The API returns a next_action object with a checkout_url. This URL leads your customer to the Rootline checkout page, where they select their payment method and enter their payment details.

{ "id": "pmt_UXRFkdU6kdAtO6ceGdxmW", "created_at": "2026-10-08T08:22:25.864452Z", "account_id": "acc_12347Sifdo36cdycbsw4Pum", "reference": "test_reference", "amount": { "currency": "DKK", "quantity": "150.00" }, "checkout_status": "open", "authorizations": [], "authentications": [], "next_action": { "checkout_url": "https://checkout.staging.rootline.com/payments/pmt_UXRFkdU6kdAtO6ceGdxmW/checkout" }, "statement_descriptor":"Bank statement text", "return_url": "https://www.my_return_url.com" }

Seamless redirect from your website to MobilePay

You can send your customer from your own page straight to MobilePay, without showing the Rootline checkout. Your customer selects the payment method on your page. To mark the payment as a MobilePay payment, add payment_rails.payment_method with the value mobilepay to the request above:

{ "account_id": "acc_12347Sifdo36cdycbsw4Pum", "amount": { "currency": "DKK", "quantity": "150.00" }, "payment_rails":{ "payment_method":"mobilepay" }, "reference": "test_reference", "description":"Test description", "statement_descriptor":"Bank statement text", "return_url":"https://www.my_return_url.com" }

Use the redirect URL in the response to send your customer to MobilePay. After the payment, your customer returns to the return_url you provided.
