Why Rootline onboards merchants
Before merchants can accept payments, Rootline must verify their identity, ownership, and business activities. This is both a legal requirement and necessary to configure their payment services.
For more details, see the onboarding checklist, fast onboarding, beneficial owners, business registers, and additional-information requests.
Why Rootline collects this information
As a payment institution licensed by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), Rootline must comply with Dutch anti-money-laundering legislation (Wwft). This requires Customer Due Diligence (CDD), including identity verification, beneficial ownership checks, and sanctions screening, before merchants can accept live payments.
Rootline also collects operational information to configure accounts, payouts, and suitable payment methods.
All merchants undergo core checks, with additional requirements depending on their business and risk profile.
What information is collected?
Each merchant's legal entity is represented as a company. Onboarding collects:
- Business registration, legal form, VAT number, address, and website
- Business activities
- Ownership and control information
- Bank account details for payouts
Legal forms are categorized as Individual, Sole Trader, Limited Liability Company, Public Company, Partnership, or Other, with local equivalents mapped accordingly.
See the onboarding checklist for all required fields.
Who needs to be verified?
Besides the business itself, Rootline must identify and verify the individuals who ultimately own or control it. See Beneficial owners for the requirements.
